CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
From 1961 to 1966 Terry worked at Conde Nast on Photography Magazine, House & Gardens, Wine & Food, Men in Vogue and Vogue. In 1966, Terry was picked by Sir Jocelyn Stevens, the owner of Queen Magazine and the backer of radio Caroline, to initiate groundbreaking sales strategies for the magazine.
Terry joined the National Magazine Company in 1969 to help re-launch Harper's Bazaar for the fifth time. In 1970 Queen merged with Harper's Bazaar to become Harpers' and Queen and is still going strong as the market leader.
In 1980 Terry became Deputy Managing Director of The National Magazine Company and becoming Managing Director two years later. Terry went to New York - spending a period of time familiarising himself with all facets of the holding company, The Hearst Corporation.
In 1984 Terry was elected Chairman of Comag, the largest magazine distribution company in the UK.
In 1989, Terry was awarded the Freedom of the City of London and in 1991 was voted 'Publishing Personality of the Year' in the Publisher Magazine's Annual Awards.
Terry has launched 7 magazines and repositioned 3 and transferred Connoisseur magazine to the US without interrupting publication.
In March 1993 Terry was elected a member of The Hearst Corporation Board of Directors and consequently became the first non-American in the history of the US based Corporation for 109 years to be appointed to the Board*.
In March, 2000 Terry was elected a Vice-President of The Hearst Board of Directors.
Terry was awarded The Marcus Morris Award in November 2001 (established by the PPA in 1990) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to magazine publishing.
In the New Years Honours list for 2002, Terry was awarded the CBE for his services to the magazine industry.
On 1st March, 2002 Terry became president and CEO of The National Magazine Company.
